Labor trafficking is defined by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 as: "The recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage or slavery"
Labor trafficking affects people everywhere. Men, women, and children are taken from their families and lured into forced labor. They are promised money for their families, education, and healthy living.
Florida, with 92 cases reported, ranks third for the top five highest cases of labor trafficking.
Many people simply do not know enough about labor trafficking and the issue isn't being talked about enough. It is this reason why this group has been formed. Us four students have come together to spread awareness and help win the fight against labor trafficking.
We are a group of women dedicated to joining the fight in stopping labor trafficking once and for all. The signs are there. The resources readily available. With just a little determination and organization, we hope to make a big difference in this modern day slavery.
If you or someone you know is a victim of labor trafficking or you suspect someone is being forced into labor trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-373-7888
